Loving wife of the late Joseph Groetsch; beloved mother of Jean (Roy) Stead, Joseph (Nancy) Groetsch, Donna (Bob) Fenk, Robert Groetsch, Darryl Groetsch, Debbie (Ron) Erb, Renee (Ed) Skonieczny, and Keith (Kathy) Groetsch; proud grandmother and great-grandmother to a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also survived by many nieces and nephews, other family and friends. Helen had a special bond with her granddaugther, Cindy Chambers and loved all animals. John N. Johnson, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. He was a resident of Pittsburgh, PA and former resident of Philadelphia, PA. John was the brother of Donna B. Fleming (Huett); and uncle to Rebecca E. Carter (Brett, Sr.), Laura H. Montue (Terrence, Sr.), and Lisa D. Croom (Kenneth, Sr.). He is also survived by his stepson, Charles C. Rushin (Carol), of Cape Coral, Florida; and his grandson, Aaron Rushin of California; and seven great-nieces and nephews and a multitude of cousins and friends. Viewing and memorial services will be held Monday, April 16, 2018, at RAPP FUNERAL HOME, 10940 Frankstown Road in Penn Hills. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon and Memorial Service will begin at 12:15 p.m. in the funeral home chapel
Daughter of the late Mary Emma Taliaferro Reed and Granville Emanuel Reed was born April 11, 1928, and peacefully departed this life, in her home, on Friday, April 6, 2018. She was raised in the Beltzhoover area of Pittsburgh, attended Beltzhoover Elementary School and Knoxville Junior High. Parthenia graduated from South Hills High School in 1945. Parthenia was employed at Lorraine Spec. Shop and Sara Jeneoff as a seamstress. She was a teacher’s aide at Lincoln Elementary School and later worked as an Executive Secretary at Gimbels Department Store in the Advertising Department. Pat or Par, as many lovingly called her, was a beautiful seamstress who made clothes and performed alterations for many people. She loved gardening and enjoyed making decorative stained glass articles which she often gifted to family and friends. Parthenia was baptized and began a relationship with her Lord and Savior at an early age. She attended the Church of the Holy Cross where she was Confirmed at the age of 12. When the church was moved to Homewood, she taught 1st Grade Sunday School. In the later years, she taught Vacation Bible School as well as Sunday School for various ages. She was united in marriage to Terah L. Brown Jr. on October, 21, 1950. To this union, two children were born, Terlene and Eugene. Terah and Pat, traveled and enjoyed their life together. He preceded her in death in 2006 after 55 years of marriage. Pat was a proud and dedicated member of various organizations. For 15 years, she was the Assistant Treasurer of the Holy Cross Vestry, she held the office of President of the Holy Cross Rector’s Guild, Treasurer for the Stoop N’ Bend Garden Club, Secretary for the Modern Grandmother’s and was a longtime member of the Deck’s Pinochle Card Club and a faithful volunteer at the Martin Luther King Reading and Cultural Center. Parthenia loved people and was always willing to help anyone in need. She enjoyed children of all ages and always had a house full. Many of the neighborhood children lovingly called her Gremal, just as her own grandchildren did. She was a wonderful hostess who loved to entertain and often opened her home to celebrations for family and friends. She leaves to cherish and celebrate the memories of her blessed life, sister, Barbara Joan Harps; daughter, Terlene Brown; son, Eugene Brown; and a very special daughter, Connie McDaniel; granddaughter, Charmel Frazier (Ricky, Jr.); grandsons, Michael L. Brown (Rhonda), Eugene Brown Jr.; great-grandchildren, Makayla Brown, Micah Brown, Rasan Brown, Ricky Frazier III, and Ramiyah Brown; beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of dear friends. Visit with the family, on Pat’s 90th Birthday, Wednesday, April 11, 2018, 3-8 p.m. at The Church of the Holy Cross, 7507 Kelly Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15208 where a Homegoing Celebration will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at 10 a.m. Final resting place, Allegheny Cemetery Mausoleum – Chapel of Angels immediately following.
