Joseph “Sonny” Wallace Jr.
Joseph L. Wallace Jr., (Sonny) born March 8, 1953, to the late parents Joseph L. Wallace Sr., and Catherine Margeret (Cooper) Wallace. Brother of surviving siblings Wanda L. (Roosevelt) Pitts, Jesse J. (Kathy)Wallace, Michael A. Wallace, Shari Tyler and Gregory Woodfork.
Sonny was raised in the neighborhood of St. Clair Village/Beltzhoover where he attended the Pittsburgh Public Schools and graduated from South Hills High School. During this time, he expressed athletic talent in track. After High School Sonny attended Technical School and earned his certification as an Auto Mechanic.
As a young man, Sonny and his friend Odell Bailey worked with Sonny’s father Joe Wallace at the Beau Brummel Society Club downtown Pittsburgh.
Sonny enjoyed playing pool and the electric organ. His biggest passion and love in life was fixing automobiles. The family knew at the early age of 12 when Sonny built his first motorized go-kart from scratch. Whenever you would meet Sonny, he would get to know you, however he was more interested in knowing what kind of vehicle you own. When a family or friend needed their vehicle fixed, Sonny was always there for us.
Sonny attended First Church of God in Christ in Beltzhoover and the Brother Dan & Sister Ann Church on the Northside.
In his later years Sonny still enjoyed fixing cars, shopping at Walmart and exploring for great finds at the Flea Markets and Goodwill. He also liked to tinker with electronic and household items that needed fixed.
Sonny was also the Uncle to Tyrone H. Pitts, Terrance L. Pitts and Daimon T. Pitts and cherished by a host of family and friends.
Sonny was loved and will be deeply missed by all of us.
Friends received Monday 4pm to 8pmn at the funeral home where services will be held Tuesday at Noon.
