He kept himself busy during retirement by tending bar at the private German Club Teutonia Männerchor on the North Side of Pittsburgh. He was a member of the American Legion Post 351, where he enjoyed getting together with fellow veteran buddies.
James was the grand Marshall in 2023 and 2024 in the Penn Hills Memorial Day parade and helped cut the ribbon for the grand opening of Mission BBQ in Monroeville, a place he loved to frequent with family and often raved about. He was a Boy Scout assistant leader and a mason, which kept him involved in his community. He spent his free time collecting coins, conquering jigsaw puzzles, and hunting with his son Daniel and grandson Mark. On July 9, 2023, his 100th birthday, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald declared the day as “Jim Snider Day” in Allegheny County. James was loved by all that knew him and will be deeply missed.
