Edward Sussna

Age 92, died on April 24, 2019, peacefully at his home in Squirrel Hill.  Loving son of Louis and Manya (Prytzycka) Sussna; husband of 66 years of Sylvia (nee Fishman, died on August 31, 2018); father of Audrey Sussna and Ellen (David) Heyman; and proud grandfather of Andrea Heyman (Will Hall) and Ben Heyman (Courtney Paull). Served with the United States Merchant Marine, 1944-1947, and with the United States Army, 1954-1956. Edward earned his PhD from the University of Illinois and was a Professor of Business Administration and Economics at the University of Pittsburgh from 1957 until his retirement in 1998.  During his tenure at the University of Pittsburgh, he served as Director of the Center for Executive Education at the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business University Pittsburgh; Academic Director of a study program in Hong Kong and the People’s Republic China; and inaugural professor of a Master’s of Business Administration program at the Bratislava (Slovakia) School of Economics.   He was also a visiting Fulbright professor at the University of Tehran; a visiting professor at the University of California at Los Angeles, at the Ecole Superieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales in Paris, and at universities in Hong Kong, and Macau; and a visiting scholar at the International Institute of Management in Berlin, Germany.   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, in support of Edward’s passion for opera and classical music.

Janet D. Gilmore

Of Longwood at Oakmont, formerly of Fox Chapel, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2019. Known for her gentle kindness, loving grace and a wee bit of naughty, Janet served her family, friends and community with delight for over 93 years. She grew up in Shadyside; graduated from Winchester Thurston and Lake Erie College; and married Dr. George Hogg Gilmore in 1951. Janet sat on the Board of the Federation of Independent School Alumni (FISA), and was devoted to her volunteer activities with Aspinwall Meals on Wheels, Harmarville Rehabilitation Center and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Janet is survived by her husband of 67 years; her brother, Richard B. Donaldson; her children, Anne G. Reid, Holland D. Gilmore and James L. Gilmore and their spouses. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Holland H. Donaldson; her brother, Holland H. Donaldson, Jr.; her sister, Mary Martha Donaldson; and her beloved son, George H. Gilmore, Jr. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Homewood Cemetery, 1599 S. Dallas Ave. on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends following the service at the Reid’s home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Aspinwall Meals on Wheels, 450 Walnut St., Pittsburgh, PA 15238, or to a charity of your choice.

Mildred McIntire

MILDRED ADELAIDE GRIFFIN McINTIRE Of the Masonic Village at Sewickley (formerly of Monroeville), passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019. She was born December 4, 1925, in Bradford, PA, daughter of the late Eva Griffin Bailey. Millie was a graduate of Bradford Area High School, received her RN from Arnot-Ogden Memorial Hospital in Elmira, NY, and her Master in Letters from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. Millie served her family and community her entire life; as a practicing nurse, an instructor in the nursing program at the University of Pittsburgh, a devoted member of Bellefield Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school, a YWCA Volunteer, and as an Activities Director at the Woodhaven Care Center. Millie was the beloved wife of 58 years of Thomas B. McIntire, Jr; sister of the late Jim (the late Lois) Griffin and the late Howard (the late Lois) Griffin; loving mother of Marilyn (Robert) Phillips, Timothy (Christine) McIntire, Margaret (Gary) Myers, and David (Laura) McIntire; adoring grandmother of Megan Phillips, Justin McIntire, Jessica M. McIntire, Emily Myers, Laura Myers, Alexis Myers, Marjorie Myers, Madalyn Myers, Matthew McIntire, Kate McIntire and Jessica L. McIntire; and aunt of Michael Griffin, Pat Griffin, Jill Patton, the late Jack Griffin, and the late Thomas Griffin. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. at the ROSE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 10940 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills, PA 15235, 412-241-5415. Interment will be private at the Homewood Cemetery.
