Rosa Lee Cabbagestalk

Age 96, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2019. Mother of Helen Wilkins, Dolores (John) Farley, Toni (Charles) Scott, Joyce (Daniel) Wallace, and Darnell (Margaret) Cabbagestalk, and the late Dorothy Peek and Shirley Cabbagestalk; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; also a host of other family and friends. Viewing Friday, from 4-8 p.m., at ROSE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 10940 Frankstown Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15235. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday at 11 a.m.

John F. Miller Jr

John Franklin (Early) Miller Jr. was born on November 21, 1945 to James William Early and Ida Margaret De Armitt.  He was raised in the Hill District and attended Schenley High School.  He was known by his family and friends as “Jackie”. “Jackie” was interested in and pursued many entrepreneurial ventures, traveling extensively.  He believed in family and returned home to Pittsburgh to help the family during difficult times in 1974.  He was employed at Conroy School for the Mentally Challenged then later moved to a counselor position under Dr. Burke through Black Action.  He held this position for a number of years. “Jackie” moved on and accepted a construction job with Commercial Construction and Hazardous Waste Local 1058.  He loved this position and remained there until becoming disabled through injury. In the early 1990’s “Jackie” was introduced to his wife Delores. They were united in marriage in December, 1999. He loved talking to family and friends.  His greatest joys were comedy shows, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his wife. “Jackie” was preceded in death by both his parents James and Ida, two brothers Kenneth and Julius Early, Stepson Nelson E. Mitchell. “Jackie” was called home by the Lord on Saturday, May 18, 2019 in Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.  He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted and loving wife Delores Miller.  His Children Duane, Jacques, Leonard and John III.  Two sisters Riquetta and Linda, one brother Emery, two Stepdaughters Brenda and Paula Mitchell, five grandchildren Malakhi, Nehemiah, Justin, Jaden and Maya Day, His legacy also includes a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Edward Sussna

Age 92, died on April 24, 2019, peacefully at his home in Squirrel Hill.  Loving son of Louis and Manya (Prytzycka) Sussna; husband of 66 years of Sylvia (nee Fishman, died on August 31, 2018); father of Audrey Sussna and Ellen (David) Heyman; and proud grandfather of Andrea Heyman (Will Hall) and Ben Heyman (Courtney Paull). Served with the United States Merchant Marine, 1944-1947, and with the United States Army, 1954-1956. Edward earned his PhD from the University of Illinois and was a Professor of Business Administration and Economics at the University of Pittsburgh from 1957 until his retirement in 1998.  During his tenure at the University of Pittsburgh, he served as Director of the Center for Executive Education at the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business University Pittsburgh; Academic Director of a study program in Hong Kong and the People’s Republic China; and inaugural professor of a Master’s of Business Administration program at the Bratislava (Slovakia) School of Economics.   He was also a visiting Fulbright professor at the University of Tehran; a visiting professor at the University of California at Los Angeles, at the Ecole Superieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales in Paris, and at universities in Hong Kong, and Macau; and a visiting scholar at the International Institute of Management in Berlin, Germany.   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, in support of Edward’s passion for opera and classical music.
