George Swope
Age 69, was born in Lexington, KY November 30, 1951 and departed this life on November 11, 2021 surrounded by loved ones at home. He relocated to Pittsburgh when he was 20 years of age and made it his home. Tino was a Master Insulator working out of Local #2 for 30 years. In 1979, he was a co-founder of the Pittsburgh Gentlemen Motorcycle Club. Tino leaves to cherish his memory a host of family and friends. Viewing will be Wednesday, November 17th from 4pm until 8pm at ROSE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 10940 Frankstown Rd., Pgh., PA 15235. Funeral Service will be Thursday, November 18th at 11 am, Baptist Temple Church, 7241 Race St., Pgh., PA 15208. Masks are required at both locations. In lieu of plants or flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, 1615 L Street NW Ste. 430, Washington, DC 20036.
Langston Smith Jr.
Age 86 of Penn Hills, PA, passed suddenly on October 28, 2021. Langston was a Korean War veteran, he enlisted July 10, 1952, serving until July 1956 in the U.S. Navy. He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard from October 1973 to October 1974. During his time in the Navy he was a Boatswain’s Mate and boxed during his recreational time to entertain the troops. He was best known for his time as a letter carrier for the USPS from February 21, 1970, until retirement August 28, 1989. Langston enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden and had tomato plants until his passing. Husband of the late Marie A. Smith. Father of Mark (Brenda) Smith, Carlos Smith, Michele Smith and the late Steven Smith and Eric Smith. Also survived by daughter-in-law, Michelle Smith. Brother of Henry “Hank” (Ada) Smith and Albert “Kenny” Smith. He was preceded in death by siblings, Geraldine Sander, Lee “Mickie” Smith, Katherine Malloy, Josephine Harden, Juanita Smith and Maxine Harvey. Also survived by six grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. Langston’s family wishes to give thanks to the support and prayers from loving family and friends. He was a dear friend to many and will be dearly missed. Friends received Monday, November 8, 2021 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm to 8pm at ROSE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 10940 Frankstown Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15235, where a Service will be held Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 11am. Internment with Military Honors will be at 1:30 pm at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
Marlene Betts
~Obituary~
Marlene P. Betts was the second eldest child born to Henry M. Pugh and Gladys Burton Pugh on January 16.1937 in Pittsburgh, PA. Marlene entered eternal rest to be with her Lord and Savior on October 29, 2021.
Marlene was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School system. She attended Burgwin Elementary, Gladstone Junior High and Taylor Allderdice Senior High School. She attended summer school classes which helped her to graduate a year earlier with the class of 1954. After graduation, she attended The Franklin School of Nursing where she graduated with honors, becoming a License Practical Nurse. Marlene registered with the The Independent Nursing Registry which enabled her to work in several nursing positions through the city of Pittsburgh. She was employed at Negley House, UPMC’s Montifore, Presbyterian and, Shadyside Hospitals and she also cared for some very prominent residents within the city. Marlene eventually settled on a Nursing supervisor position from which she retired. She was a real nurse to the core of her existence.
Marlene met and married William S. Betts in 1955 in Winchester, VA. From this union seven children were born.
Marlene thoroughly enjoyed planting, tending to her flowers and doing home décor. She was a die-hard Steeler fan. Her deep love for her family was a priority in her life. Even more of a priority, was her love for the Lord Jesus Christ! She led a life that Christ intends for all of us to lead. She served Him and turned no one away. Her favorite saying was” Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ?” “Well, let me introduce you to Him!” We take solace in knowing that she is safe in His loving arms. Praise God!! She made it home.
Preceding her in death, her daughters, Sharon L. Betts, Patricia K. Betts and her grandson, Gary S. Betts Jr, her brother, Victor Pugh and her sister, Jean Pugh.
Marlene leaves to cherish her memory, Bill Betts. Five children, Gary (Yvonne) Betts, William Jr (Deborah) Betts, Susan Betts, Shellie (Sheridan) Arrington Sr, Jodi (Archie) Donald. Her loving sister, Sandra K. Campbell, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, her God daughter, Paulette Moody and Lastly, her extended family…The Traylor Family.
Friends received Thursday, November 4, 2021 10 am til time of service at Noon at the funeral home.

Age 91 of Indiana, PA, formerly of Saltsburg, PA,passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 24, 2021. Phyllis married the late Norman McIntyre until his passing in 2009, and later she married the late James Compton. Devoted mother of Robert (Stacey) McIntyre, Gary (Denise) McIntyre, and the late Richard McIntyre. Loving grandmother of Evan McIntyre, Julie McIntyre, and Richard McIntyre. Sister of Esther “Jean” Fornof, the late Sandra Morrison and Jack Schofield. Also survived by a host of beloved, devoted nieces and nephews. She had a true devotion and love for her pets, dogs, cats and all the animals that she took in and gave a loving home to. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 710 New Texas Road, Plum, PA, 15239.
