Robert C. “Bobby” McPeak

Age 58, born in Pittsburgh, PA, currently of Nebraska, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 9, 2021. Beloved son of Emma Jean McPeak and the late Leslie “Ernie” McPeak, Sr. Loving brother of Leslie E. (Lorrine) McPeak, Jr., David McPeak, Margaret Silvika, Timothy McPeak, Daniel (Josie) McPeak, and Patricia (Roger) Shoup. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Bobby will be sadly missed. Friends received Friday, July 16 at 10 a.m. until time of Service at Noon at ROSE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 10940 Frankstown Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15235.

Henry Perham

Age 99, of Wilkinsburg, PA passed away peacefully at the Oakland VA Hospital on July 4, 2021. He was preceded in death by his mother, Susie Parham; his aunt, Lucy Graz; brother, Timothy Parham; sister, Mary Saly; one niece and four nephews. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ethel Parham; and two sisters-in-law, Bertha L. Daglow and Edolia Perry and four generations of nieces and nephews. Henry was a WWII veteran. He served on D-Day on June 6, 1944 on Omaha Beach. He was a Medal of Honor recipient. He was a member of Post 577 and he joined the American Legion 67 years ago. He also volunteered at the VA Hospital, both the Highland Dr. VA and Oakland VA. Friends received Sunday, 4-8 p.m. at ROSE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, with an American Legion Service at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Service will be held Monday, 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, send memorial contributions to Veteran’s Breakfast Club, 200 Magnolia Pl., Pgh., PA 15222.

Arthur Jeffrey

Son of the late William and Rosie Jeffrey, was born on August 7, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He departed this life on Friday, July 2, 2021. He was educated through the Pittsburgh Public School System. In 1950 he served our country in the United States Army, left active duty in 1952, and was honorably discharged from the United States Army Reserve in 1956. Arthur was preceded in death by wife Mildred Young Jeffrey (1963) and wife Ella Louise Sumter-Jeffrey (2009). From his union with Mildred, two children were born. Arthur worked for Airlines Transportation Company for over 50 years. He then went on to own Art’s Tavern and became well known and loved by his patrons. At an early age he became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member. He was a member of the Pittsburgh Chapter Tots and Teens and the American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, traveling, and entertaining family and friends. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Mamie Jeffrey and Myrtle Washington; and brother, Nathanial Jeffrey. Arthur leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Minister Priscilla R. Jeffrey and Caren Ann Miller (Donnell); one sister-in-law, Mabel Davis; three grandchildren, Marcus Arthur Monroe of Houston, TX, Justin Miller and Christen Miller; two great-grandchildren, Marcus Arthur Monroe Jr. and Alia Jay Monroe of Houston, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Friends received Thursday,2- 4 p.m. to 6-8 p.m. at ROSE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES. Service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Shiloh Community Baptist Church, 6940 Frankstown Ave., Pgh., PA 15208.

Cecelia M. Howard

Age 87, of Pittsburgh PA, formally of Darlington, MD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 26, 2021. Daughter of the late Paul and Lalah McMillan; devoted mother of Alter  “Ralph” (Sharon) Howard, III, Gary (Raylene) Howard, Stanley Howard and the late Sheryl Howard; beloved grandmother to Chance Eric Howard, Montana Howard, Altovise Shereese (Jay) Vanmatre and Gary Lee Howard, Jr. Great-grandmother of Kaya and Kingston Vanmatre. Sister-in-law of Doris McMillan, also survived by a host of cousins nieces nephews other family and friends. Friends received Tuesday, July 6, 2021, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at ROSE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 10940 Frankstown Rd., Pgh., PA 15235 where service will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at 11 a.m.

Emma Rhodes

Emma J Rhodes, affectionally called Aunt Emmie and Nana, was born on February 10th, 1925. in Louisa County, Virginia to the late Fred and Mable (Brown) Brice and stepfather Green Freeman “Pop”.  On June 17th, 2021, she entered into eternal rest after a long and courageous battle with illness. During Emma’s early childhood, the family migrated to Pittsburgh, PA where they initially settled in the Garfield area of the Pittsburgh.  Emma attended Garfield Elementary School and was a proud graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1944.  Emma was employed by the City of Pittsburgh for 35 years where she started out as a Traffic Court Clerk and worked her way up to retire as a Supervisor of the City Information Systems. At which time she was instrumental in helping to develop the first automated payroll system, through IBM, for the City of Pittsburgh. After retiring she worked at Sears in Monroeville, PA.  However, her greatest joy was her volunteer work at the Children’s Institute.  She loved working there and befriended many of the staff members and patients.  As much as Emma loved the staff and the work they were doing, the staff loved her more.  She was affectionally knows as “grama” and was highly respected by all.  Emmie also volunteered with the Foster Grandparents Program.  During her life, Emma received numerous awards from Government leaders and volunteer organizations. Everyone knew her to be a woman of faith growing up in the Sixth Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she sang with the Senior Choir and engaged in many church activities.  Emma also taught Sunday School at Bethesda Presbyterian Church.  She was a stalwart member and past matron of Cyrene Chapter #9. Order of the Eastern Star (O.E.S.) Emma was pre-deceased by her parents, four brothers; Joseph, Albert, Lewis and William; and a sister; Sylvia (Freeman/Smith) Wright.  She was also pre-deceased by Theodore B. Allen and Richard C. Rhodes, Sr. Emma leaves to cherish in her Book of Life her two loving and devoted sons; Louie F. Allen (Peggie) and Richard C.  “Ricky” Rhodes, Jr. who were the loves of her life.; grandsons Christopher B. Allen, Jonathan F. Allen and Oliver R. Rhodes (Whitley); great-grandchildren Christopher B. Allen, Jr., Sydney N. Allen, Olivia A. Rhodes, Brandon L. Allen, Wyatt A. Rhodes and Sophia J. Allen.  She also leaves to mourn her passing a special longtime friend, Mary Lois Session, Raymond and Cathy Ellison, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A special thanks to the staff at St. Vincentian de Marillac for the excellent care they provided. Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday, June 23rd between 11:00am and 1:00pm at Sixth Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 6556 Shetland Street, Pittsburgh, PA  15206.
