James P Smith

Age 85, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025. Son of the late Alex and Leona Smith. Beloved husband of Rose Smith. Devoted father of Dana Smith, James P. (Ni’mat) Smith II, Wynona Chapman Bey, Shanell (Jerry) Washington and the late James P. Smith, Jr. Brother of Qwendolyn Ciffelli, Marion Smith-Reynoso and the late Alex Smith and Carl Lee Smith. Also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Friends received Monday, April 7, 2025, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at ROSE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 10940 Frankstown Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235. Marian Juanita Boone Allen

Marian Juanita (Boone) Allen October 5, 1935 – March 13, 2025 Marian passed away in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at age 89, leaving a void her family and friends cannot fill. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 5, 1935, to Edward and Roberta Boone and was the seventh of nine children. Marian attended the Penn Township (Penn Hills) school system and graduated from Penn Hills High School. She worked at St. Francis Hospital, the Department of Welfare, and the US Postal Service, initially sorting mail and working her way up to an administrative position in the Pittsburgh Post Office’s Equal Employment Opportunity Office. Marian enjoyed travel, especially overseas, with her mother and sisters in her younger life and with her children in later years. She stayed active into her older age and participated in bowling leagues for many years. Marian was skilled in sewing and creative in crafting, which she passed on to her daughter and granddaughter. She loved her community and spent many hours volunteering with children in after-school reading programs and with child evangelism clubs. Those who knew Marian would call her faithful. As a devoted member of St. Mark AME Church, she served the Lord faithfully as a member of the Anna Curry Missionary Society and supported many other Christian ministries. She was faithful to her family, passing along values of diligence, kindness, and honesty. Marian is survived by her sister Edna Richards, son Cornell (Norma) Allen, daughter Celeste Allen, grandchildren Benjamin Allen and Christina Allen, and numerous nieces and nephews, who will never forget the love she brought to their lives. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Allen, parents Edward and Roberta Boone, brothers and sisters Daniel Boone, Hazel Hassen Bey, Beatrice Perry, James Boone, Walter Boone, Joseph Boone, and Mary Wooten. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, 7th June, at 1 p.m. at St. Mark AME Church, 1409 Montier Street, Wilkinsburg, PA 15221, followed by a repast. Robert Gray Krohner

Age 67, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on March 11, 2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born September 4, 1957, in Detroit, MI, to Harry and Faye (Grunt) Krohner. Rob attended Hillel Day School of Detroit, Southfield Lathrup High School, Michigan State University, Wayne State University, and the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, IA. This was followed by a residency in anesthesia and critical care medicine fellowship. Rob practiced the majority of his career at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, both at the Eye & Ear Hospital and Magee-Women’s Hospital, finishing his career as an associate professor. During his tenure at UPMC he was actively involved in patient care, as well as teaching both anesthesia residents and medical students until he retired in 2021. In his spare time, Rob was a sports enthusiast both as a participant and a spectator. He enjoyed kayaking, biking, and boating with his wife and family. Rob leaves behind his wife, Karen (Marrich) Krohner; children, Matthew Krohner (Hannah), Noah Krohner (Kelsey), and Gavrielle Kasznel (Zachary); grandchildren, Eliza, Lucille, Hendrix, and Otto. Sister, Linda Friedlaender (Gary); sister-in-law, Lisa Gordon (Robert); brother-in-law, David Simon; aunt, Libby (Grunt) Newman; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Faye Krohner; in-laws, Donald and Ghinda (Friedenberg) Marrich; brother, Martin Krohner; and sister-in-law, Diane (Marrich) Simon of blessed memory. Alexander Rodriguez

ALEXANDER FONTES HARTH RODRIGUEZ Beloved and cherished son of Francisco J. Rodriguez and Laura Harth Rodriguez, passed away on the morning of February 18, 2025, at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. The cause of death was a sudden heart attack with complications from pneumonia. An accomplished recording engineer, whose work included the Metropolitan Opera Summer in the Parks concerts, MTV Video Music Awards and sundry studio recordings, Alex was an accomplished pianist who excelled in classical music. Alex’s keen appreciation and understanding of varied musical genres were key elements in his life and inspired joy in his family and friends. Alex’s wit and humor were legendary and were offset by a genuine love of people and commitment to helping others. To that end, he was led to the Healthcare industry, where he was currently employed as a Patient Care Technician. He excitedly planned to enter nursing school in the fall. Alex was a devoted animal lover and advocate for adoption and rescue. He adopted his beloved dog, ” Gucci” at a local shelter and they enjoyed an inseparable presence that will always remain a constant reminder of Alex’s gentle soul. Alex is survived by his parents, Francisco Javier Rodriguez and Laura Harth Rodriguez; and a multitude of loving and loyal friends. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the medical team at West Penn for their valiant lifesaving efforts and helpful support.
