Paul Gray

Paul Allen Gray was born to the late, Homer Allen Gray and L. Victoria Jones Gray on December 9, 1944, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of three children. Paul was educated in the Pittsburgh Public Schools.  He graduated from “The” George Westinghouse High School in 1963.  He attended Parson College in Iowa.  He began a career in the finance industry, working for First Seneca Bank and PNB before transitioning to the transportation industry in 2006. In 2006, Paul saw a need for school bus drivers.  He loved working for Laidlaw/First Student.  He moved up the ranks and became a trainer.  While driving he made relationships with the students as well as the staff at the various schools.  He met many friends that soon became family there. Paul’s interests were varied.  He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pitt Panthers, cooking, MSNBC, and WQED.  Paul’s devoted friend and cousin, Christine Hogan, introduced Paul to “Silver Sneakers” which he loved and participated in weekly. Paul married Barbara Ann Mims in 1970.  To this union were born 2 children, Shannon Denise and Allen Sherwin. One of Paul’s proudest moments was when Allen joined the Navy.  For Paul, this was a dream fulfilled.  Paul aspired to join the Navy himself, but due to a heart murmur he was denied the opportunity.  Paul would honor Allen’s commitment to the Navy, causing his absence due to his deployment. Thursday, June 23, Paul slipped away from time to embrace eternity in the presence of Jesus Christ.  Paul leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Shannon Gray-Whitson (Blaine) of Pittsburgh, PA, son, Allen Gray, currently deployed, “favorite ex-wife”, Barbara Gray of Pittsburgh, PA, sister, Sharron Greaves of Hatfield, PA, grandchildren, Sydney Amaya Gray, Austin Mark Gray, Dayton Allen Gray-Whitson, Kiera Whitson, Tyrique Whitson, and Gabrielle Whitson of Pittsburgh, PA, niece, Stacey Greaves of Maryland, 2 great nieces, 3 great nephews, cousin, Christine Hogan, and a host of cousins, family and friends.
