Joseph “Sonny” Wallace Jr.

Joseph L. Wallace Jr., (Sonny) born March 8, 1953, to the late parents Joseph L. Wallace Sr., and Catherine Margeret (Cooper) Wallace. Brother of surviving siblings Wanda L. (Roosevelt) Pitts, Jesse J. (Kathy)Wallace, Michael A. Wallace, Shari Tyler and Gregory Woodfork. Sonny was raised in the neighborhood of St. Clair Village/Beltzhoover where he attended the Pittsburgh Public Schools and graduated from South Hills High School.  During this time, he expressed athletic talent in track.  After High School Sonny attended Technical School and earned his certification as an Auto Mechanic. As a young man, Sonny and his friend Odell Bailey worked with Sonny’s father Joe Wallace at the Beau Brummel Society Club downtown Pittsburgh. Sonny enjoyed playing pool and the electric organ.  His biggest passion and love in life was fixing automobiles.  The family knew at the early age of 12 when Sonny built his first motorized go-kart from scratch. Whenever you would meet Sonny, he would get to know you, however he was more interested in knowing what kind of vehicle you own. When a family or friend needed their vehicle fixed, Sonny was always there for us. Sonny attended First Church of God in Christ in Beltzhoover and the Brother Dan & Sister Ann Church on the Northside. In his later years Sonny still enjoyed fixing cars, shopping at Walmart and exploring for great finds at the Flea Markets and Goodwill.  He also liked to tinker with electronic and household items that needed fixed. Sonny was also the Uncle to Tyrone H. Pitts, Terrance L. Pitts and Daimon T. Pitts and cherished by a host of family and friends. Sonny was loved and will be deeply missed by all of us. Friends received Monday 4pm to 8pmn at the funeral home where services will be held Tuesday at Noon.

Louis Freeman

Louis Freeman Sr., son of Allen and Helen Freeman, passed away on Tuesday, August 20 in his home of 64 years surrounded by family. He was 97.   Louis was born in Bessemer, Alabama on November 29, 1926. After graduating from Muscoda High School, Lou served his country in the United States Army, before being honorably discharged and migrating to Pittsburgh. He met and married Doris Morgan, a divorced mother of 4. They eventually had 7 biological children of their own. Louis was a pillar of his community and the patriarch of his family who worked as a construction foreman and was an active union member. He inspired generations of his family as a savy businessman and a real estate mogul in his own right. He was tough, proud, and a testament to the possibilities of hard work – and, as he said, knowing “the value of a dollar” . However, he was a generous and giving man who loved jazz and blues music and was always sharp in the finest clothes, jewelry, hats, and cars with custom “Lou” license plates. He also took great pride in having the greenest lawn and best flowers in the neighborhood – and could be seen taking care of his children and grandchildren’s yards all over Pittsburgh.   Lou was preceded in death by his wife Doris, his son Allen, and his stepson Otis. Left to honor his memory are his brother Donnie (Denise), children and step-children, Barbara, Diane (Robert), Doris, Louis (Janet), Charmaine (Michael), Regina, Andre (Sherri), Lorie (David), and Shawn (Carmella), as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a very special friend – Geraldine – who will all miss him dearly. Friends received Monday 10am till time of service at noon at the funeral home
