Marlene P. Betts was the second eldest child born to Henry M. Pugh and Gladys Burton Pugh on January 16.1937 in Pittsburgh, PA. Marlene entered eternal rest to be with her Lord and Savior on October 29, 2021.
Marlene was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School system. She attended Burgwin Elementary, Gladstone Junior High and Taylor Allderdice Senior High School. She attended summer school classes which helped her to graduate a year earlier with the class of 1954. After graduation, she attended The Franklin School of Nursing where she graduated with honors, becoming a License Practical Nurse. Marlene registered with the The Independent Nursing Registry which enabled her to work in several nursing positions through the city of Pittsburgh. She was employed at Negley House, UPMC’s Montifore, Presbyterian and, Shadyside Hospitals and she also cared for some very prominent residents within the city. Marlene eventually settled on a Nursing supervisor position from which she retired. She was a real nurse to the core of her existence.
Marlene met and married William S. Betts in 1955 in Winchester, VA. From this union seven children were born.
Marlene thoroughly enjoyed planting, tending to her flowers and doing home décor. She was a die-hard Steeler fan. Her deep love for her family was a priority in her life. Even more of a priority, was her love for the Lord Jesus Christ! She led a life that Christ intends for all of us to lead. She served Him and turned no one away. Her favorite saying was” Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ?” “Well, let me introduce you to Him!” We take solace in knowing that she is safe in His loving arms. Praise God!! She made it home.
Preceding her in death, her daughters, Sharon L. Betts, Patricia K. Betts and her grandson, Gary S. Betts Jr, her brother, Victor Pugh and her sister, Jean Pugh.
