Henry Livingston

Henry Maddock Livingston, 84, of Churchill, PA passed away on November 16, 2025, after a prolonged illness surrounded by family.
Henry was born September 5, 1941, in Miami, Florida, the son of Dewey Sr. Livingston and Lillie Duhart.
Henry graduated from Schenley High School in 1959, then went to the University of Pittsburgh earning a degree in English secondary education. He later went on to earn a master’s degree in school administration from Duquesne University and a master’s in divinity from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
Henry married Marva Taliaferro on August 20, 1966, in Penn Hills, PA. In fact, it took only two months to solidify their union after a blind date on Memorial Day weekend. They remained married for 52 years until Marva’s passing in 2018.
For over 30 years, Henry worked for the Pittsburgh Public Schools serving as a high school English teacher and Dean of Students. As a man of faith, family, and intellect, he enjoyed listening to talk radio as well as a diverse body of music, watching Pittsburgh sports, attending church, and going on family vacations.
He was a member and Associate Minister of Bethel AME Church and was active in the church’s efforts to reclaim rights to their original location. Henry will forever be remembered for his fiery sermons, keen intellect, robust smile, and love of literature.
Remaining to cherish Henry are his children Carmen and Tasha; granddaughter, Queonia; sisters, Jacqueline (Bertram), and Patricia; brother-in-law, Bertram Gardner, and nephew, Alex Gardner.
Preceding in death are spouse, Marva; daughter, Dorothy; parents, Dewey, Sr., and Lillie; brothers, David and Dewey, Jr.; and sister Cynthia.
Visitation will be held November 23, 4pm to 7pm, at Rose Funeral Home, 10940 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills, PA 15235. Funeral services will be held November 24, 12pm, at Bethel AME Church, 2720 Webster Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15219. Interment will be at Homewood Cemetery.
