Carolyn Ann Patterson
Carolyn Ann (Lindsey) Patterson was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on December 20, 1946. She was the second child of Ruth (WillAford) Lindsey and Enoch Lindsey. Carolyn was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania along with her six siblings and lived in the neighborhoods of the Hill District, St. Clair Village, Northview Heights and Wilkinsburg. In 1964, she graduated from Perry High School with an academic focus in the area of secretarial studies. She excelled in shorthand, typing, and dreamed of being a court stenographer after high school.
Her first professional position was with the Western Union Company followed by a position at the campaign headquarters of Lyndon Johnson, Hubert Humphrey and Geneveive Blatt as an assistant. Later she obtained an administrative position at PPG Industries and most recently, as the administrative assistant for Dr. Jose Moura in the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University where she spent nearly 35 years.
As a young woman, Carolyn was beautiful, energetic and enjoyed music and social gatherings with friends. She loved to travel and experience new and exciting things. She often spoke of her desire to learn to read music and play instruments such as the piano and drums.
Carolyn met Joseph Patterson, her husband of nearly 40 years, at the Victory Baptist Church when she was a young girl. They married on August 14, 1976, and settled in the Penn Hills area. In 1980, she welcomed her daughter Heather Dawn who she loved and cherished.
Carolyn loved being with her family and spent holidays playing games and helping to prepare the holiday feast at the home of her sister. She was kind, soft-spoken yet tenacious in her efforts. She was compassionate and had a strong work ethic throughout her career.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents Ruth (Williford) Lindsey and Enoch Lindsey as well as husband Joseph Patterson, sister Roslyn (Bobby) Hassain and sister-in-law Donna (Donald) Lindsey. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Heather (Chinedu) Ogbulie and grandsons Chiemelie and Jidenna. Also cherishing her memory are sisters Gwendolyn (Lash) Daviston, Phyllis (Charles) Dillard, Marilyn (Stanley) Hudson, and brothers Donald Lindsey and Edward (Adrian) Lindsey. She will forever remain in the hearts of so many including special friends, extended family, colleagues, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends received Tuesday 6pm to 8pm at the funeral home, service will be held Wednesday at 10 am at Central Baptist Church, 2200 Wylie Ave, Pittsburgh PA 15219
