Dorothy E Byrd
Dorothy E. Byrd was born to the late Grady and Kitty Farris, on February 12, 1933, in Pittsburgh, PA. She earned her wings on November 20, 2024.
She was educated in the Pittsburgh Public Schools system, attending A. Leo Weil Elementary School, Herron Hill Middle School, and graduating from Schenley High School in 1951.
In 1952, Dorothy married Robert B. Byrd, who served in the United States Air Force, and was stationed in Germany. Joining him abroad, they had two daughters, Barbara and Sheryl. After eight years, Dorothy and the girls returned to Pittsburgh, and Dorothy continued her education at Duff School of Business, earning an Associate’s Degree.
She was employed by the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education as a clerk in the Personnel Office, and retired after 37 years as an Executive Secretary, in 1998.
At an early age, Dorothy accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal savior, and was baptized at the Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church by the late Rev. J.C. Harriston. She was a volunteer in the Food Bank Program, the Beautification Ministry, and was secretary of the Birthday Ministry.
She was preceded in death by Edward Farris (sister-in-law Robyn); and son-in-law, Joseph Robinson. Her memory will be cherished by her two daughters, Barbara Byrd Robinson, and Sheryl Byrd; three grandsons, Brian and Dwayne Robinson, Cesario Clinton; granddaughter, Rochelle Robinson; nine great-grandchildren, Drew Robinson, Jazlyn Robinson, Damauri Robinson, Ailee Robinson, Kai Johnson, Madison Johnson, Cyanne Clinton, Amenah Clinton, CJ Clinton; two nieces, Sharyn Thompson and Pamela Young-Gobble; with special acknowledgment to Beverly Johnson, Keith Reed, Robert and Sandra Robinson, Monica Robinson, Raymond Robinson, Joanne Robinson, Tiffany Ford and a host of cousins and friends.
Friends received Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 11 a.m. until time of service, at noon, at Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church, 6556 Shetland St., Pittsburgh, PA 15206.
