Ann Julian Ruffin Harris

Ann Julian (Ruffin) Harris, 87, died Monday, June 5, 2023, following a long illness. Born August 12th, 1935 in Enterprise, Alabama, Ann was the daughter of Benjamin and Flora Ruffin. A lifelong member of the Pittsburgh community, Ann served as a democratic committeewoman for the 21st ward for many years. She was the owner of Ann’s Superette grocery store during the 1970’s and was affectionately known as Miss. Ann by the neighborhood residents. Ann was a dedicated member of the Daughters of Isis, a charitable auxiliary organization associated with the Masons. Ann loved to travel, spend time with her grandchildren and was known for her outgoing personality. Ann was a staunch defender of her children. Ann came from a large family and remained close to her siblings throughout her life. She is survived by her sons, Keith Bookert and his wife Jody, Paul Bookert and his wife Shonns, daughters, Jacalyn Elliot, Kelly Bookert Ivy and Mika Harris. She is also survived by a sister, Dazarene Irons. Additionally, she is survived by her grandchildren, Candance and Brandace Elliot, Paul Bookert, Kelretta Bookert Gibson, Aja Bookert, Chesney White, Virgil and Alvin Bookert, Keith, Edward and Denise Stone and three great grandchildren. Ann is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Bookert, siblings, Paul Ruffin, Lomas Ruffin, Joseph Ruffin, Virgil Ruffin, Mary Ruffin, Barbara Johnson and Betty Boyd. A son, Virgil Bookert and nephew, Roland Johnson also preceded her in death. A celebration of life will be Friday, June 9th at Noon, friends received 11am til time of service, at Rose Funeral Home. A private burial will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice.
