In Loving Memory of Leonard Ronnell Brackney
January 2, 1960 – September 27, 2026
Born on January 2, 1960, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Leonard Ronnell Brackney, affectionately known as “Cuppy,” was the beloved son of Marion Smith Reynoso. He was preceded in death by his fathers, Raymond C. Brackney and Leonard Booker.
Throughout his life, Cuppy was known for his love of basketball, bowling, and music. He devoted himself to his family, community service, and his cherished church family at Antioch Baptist Church in Phoenix, Arizona. His warm spirit, generosity, and passion for helping others touched the lives of many. Cuppy served in a variety of professions throughout his life, dedicating his talents to school systems, hospitals, and community organizations. He also enjoyed a professional music career as a percussionist. Although his only formal music education came through his studies at Holy Rosary School, he was largely self-taught and developed his musical gifts through hard work, determination, and a lifelong love of music. His love for the Pittsburgh Steelers was well known, and Sundays were often spent enthusiastically rooting for the black and gold.
Cuppy’s commitment to education began early. He attended Holy Rosary Elementary School and Brunnerdale Seminary, later being accepted into Duquesne University. His educational experiences helped shape the values, discipline, and faith that guided him throughout his life. Even in passing, Cuppy’s generous spirit continued to bless others through the gift of organ donation. One of his final acts of compassion was giving the gift of life, helping to save and improve the lives of many. Through this selfless decision, his legacy lives on not only in the hearts and memories of those who loved him, but also in the lives of those forever impacted by his extraordinary gift. His enduring generosity remains a testament to the caring and selfless man he was.
Cuppy leaves to cherish his memories, his mother Papal Dame Marion Smith Reynoso, CSG., his children, Cassandra Brackney, Leonard Brackney Jr. (Alisha), and Joshua Brackney; and his two granddaughters Amyah and Aureliah. He is also survived by his sisters: Ramona Pope (Anthony), RaShall Brackney-Wheelock (Stephan), Deborah McCloud (Michael – deceased), Theresa Busey, Dawn Ann Douglas (Damon) and Niki Lynn Booker Straws (Joseph). In addition to those listed above, he is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, (Great and Great Great) cousins, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Cuppy’s exceptional life will be held on October 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bede Church, 509 S. Dallas Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15208. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring and celebrating his life, faith, and enduring legacy.
