Anne Sullivan Hartz
On April 28, 2023, Anne Sullivan Hartz of Pittsburgh, PA passed away peacefully just shy of her 102nd birthday surrounded by loved ones.
Anne was born on May 26, 1921 to parents Charles & Faye Sullivan in Dayton, OH where she lived until she was swept off her feet by Army Captain Nelson William Hartz from Pittsburgh, PA in 1943. Anne and Nelson built a wonderful life together as part of the Churchill community where they raised their 5 sons. Anne’s unwavering faith in God served as the foundation of all she would accomplish in life. Beulah Presbyterian Church became a second home to Anne and her family as they worshiped every Sunday for over 60 years. As her family grew to add daughters-in-law and 9 grandchildren, Anne was devoted to keeping her family connected through weekly letters, phone calls, and cross county travels to be present for every major life event. Anne was a caretaker by nature. Her greatest joy was to make sure those around her were well cared for.
She lost her husband in 2008 after 64 years of marriage, Anne’s commitment to her faith and her family only continued to grow as she enjoyed her time with her 9 great-grandchildren. Anne touched the lives of anyone that she encountered. Her kindness, generosity, and wonderful sense of humor radiated every room she entered. If anyone can take a lesson from Anne’s life it is this – enjoy the life you were given. Anne enjoyed every bit of her life.
Anne is survived by her 5 sons Scott Hartz (Carol), Jay Hartz (Terre), Rob Hartz (Shelly), Gary Hartz (Nancy), Dave Hartz, 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Longwood at Oakmont Retirement Community, Right at Home, and the medial staff at St Margaret’s for their incredible care and compassion during a difficult time.
Memorial service will be held Friday May 26, 2023 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel at the Longwood Senior Care Facility in Oakmont, PA 15139-1196.
Charitable contributions can be made in Anne’s honor to the Presbyterian Senior Care Foundation at 1215 Hulton Rd. Oakmont PA 15139-1196.
